Biography
Sughra Baghirzada was born on February 10, 1947, in Baku. She has been passionate about art since childhood. Her first major success came in 1959 when she performed the song “Jujalarim” (My Chickens) at the Azerbaijani Culture Festival in Moscow, held on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre. It was Sughra Baghirzada’s rendition—accompanied by the Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Niyazi—that earned the song a place in The Best Children’s Voices of the World collection.
At the age of 12, this talented young girl was invited to join the “Azerbaijanfilm” studio as a dubbing actress. While in the 8th grade, she starred in the short film “Roads and Streets,” directed by Zeynab Kazimova. In 1963, she was cast as the lead character, Yeter, in Agarza Guliyev’s film “Ulduz.” The film gained immense popularity in the mid-1960s and has remained a beloved classic among audiences ever since.
After graduating from the Engineering and Technology Department of the Azerbaijan Oil Academy in 1970, she returned to Azerbaijanfilm as an engineer while continuing her acting career, bringing to life many memorable characters in various films.
Sughra Baghirzada is a member of the Union of Artists, the Union of Cinematographers of Azerbaijan, and the Confederation of Cinematographers of the CIS and Baltic States.
Since 2004, she has also been a member of the World Flower Council, an international organization spanning 27 countries. She is the first and only representative not only from Azerbaijan but from the entire Turkic-speaking world to be part of this esteemed council.
Throughout her career, she has created over 200 artworks, which have been exhibited in Latvia, Russia, France, Malaysia, New Zealand, the UK, Croatia, Japan, and China.
Sughra Baghirzada is also the author of “Floristry,” the first book published in Azerbaijani about floral design, exploring both classical and modern trends in floristry.
In 2008, by decree of the President of Azerbaijan, she was awarded the honorary title of “Honored Artist of Azerbaijan.”
For her outstanding contributions to world culture, Sughra Baghirzada has received numerous prestigious awards and honorary titles.

- “Founder of a New Professional Direction in the Floral Industry” diploma (2016)– awarded by the World Flower Council, further highlighting the uniqueness of artworks and the innovative technologies used in their creation.
- “Certificate of Honor” diploma (2016) for participation in the International Exhibition of Florist Designers in St. Petersburg, “A tribute to a Friend of Peterhof’’ diploma (2016) for the originality of the presented collection– dedicated to the 300th anniversary of Peterhof.
- “Duty and Honor” award (2016), “Benefit, Honor, and Glory” award (2016)– awarded by the United Nations Council on Public Awards (UNCOPA).
- “Tereggi” (Progress) Medal (2018)– awarded on August 1, 2018, by Order No. 376 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
- “Ambassador of Culture and Peace” (2018)– awarded by the United Nations Council on Public Awards (UNCOPA) for services in the world culture.
- “Leonardo da Vinci” Medal (2021)– awarded by the United Nations Council on Public Awards (UNCOPA) for outstanding contributions to world culture.
- “Simurg” International Medal (2023)– awarded by the “Simurg” Azerbaijan Cultural Association for contributions to the development of high spiritual culture at the national and international levels.
The portfolio also includes numerous awards and diplomas for active participation in World Flower Council events held in various locations worldwide, including Japan, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, China, Latvia, Russia, Croatia and many others.
